Dear Judy,
I’m sure you’ve never had a question like this before. Two months after our neighbors moved in next door, the husband dropped dead (heart attack). Naturally I hardly knew them, but as they have a toddler and so do I, we used to wave once in a while.
Nonetheless, a bunch of us in the neighborhood got together, and brought them home-cooked casseroles and desserts pretty regularly. Six families are involved. Our bereaved neighbor always thanks us when she sees any one of us at the supermarket or just passing, and on every one of these occasions, she tells us how much our kindness means to her, and how much she loves our cooking and the neighborhood in general.
Which is sweet, Judy, but it’s been eight months. She hasn’t told us to quit! A few of us in the neighborhood badly want to (me, among them). Should we?

Dear Susan,
Are you kidding? I think you should open a catering business.
You are 100 percent right. I never did have a question like this before. Stop cooking. Start living.
Thanks for writing
Judy
