Dear Judy,
My grandmother who’s suffered from recurrent melanoma, which has spread, has written a will which – I happen to know – leaves some prime property in northern Virginia to her three grandchildren, provided none of us smokes and all of us go regularly to church. I’m one of those three. I’m born-again, a church-goer and I never smoke.
I happen to know that my cousin never sees the inside of a church if he can help it. Funerals, weddings, that’s about it. He’s a devout atheist.
And he smokes. And not only tobacco.
What do I tell our grandmother?
Lorraine in northern Virginia
Dear Lorraine,
Nothing.
Thank you for writing
Judy

Well said, Judy. Lorraine should say nothing at all to her grandmother. She should however have a long talk with her cousin — and tell him that he is conning a sick old lady.
Hey Max baby– anyone there? Like the cousin doesn’t know he’s conning a sick old lady? The only conversation to have with him should go like this: you either change your ways, or fess up to her, or I sure as hell will tell her.
