Dear Judy,
Our stepfather, as I guess you’d call him, has Alzheimer’s (our mother is dead). He has one daughter by his first marriage, and she is Ms Take-Charge. You know the type. She can do everything. She boasts about it all the time.
Now she is saying that I, the step-daughter and no relation to her at all, should “help out.” For some reason she can no longer do everything. She says I owe it to her father (”owe it” are her words), because he was nice to me when he married my mother.
Judy I was 28 when they married. I am now 40. I have 3 teenage sons, a full-time job, and a husband who vanished over a year ago. Do I have to help out?
Do I owe it to anyone?
Karen
Dear Karen,
No.
Thanks for writing
Judy
