Dear Judy,
My sister believes in Heaven and Hell. I do not. She mainly believes our older brother who died at 38 will be going to Hell. I won’t go into all the reasons. There are too many. Mainly she didn’t like the fact that he was gay, and also a gambler.
Now that he’s dead that’s all she talks about, our brother and Hell. And also what will happen to him now that he’s in the “fiery pit.”
How do I get her to stop talking?
Cammy
Dear Cammy,
I am really sorry about your brother’s death. And also sorry you seem to be stuck with a sister who likes to imagine the worst.
But let’s be frank here: why do have to listen to what she says? Is there somebody gluing a cell phone to your ear? Haven’t you ever expressed your feelings about Afterlife discussions with her?
My suggestion: the next time your sister launches into one of her insulting ramblings, cut her off. Tell her you’re tired of that kind of talk, that it pains you to listen to her plotting out your brother’s Afterlife, and if she continues you won’t be able to be as much in contact with as you were before.
If she doesn’t heed the warning, you’ll at least have charted yourself a flight path from Hell, fire and damnation.
Thanks for writing
Judy
