    My Brother, My Father, Myself

     
    Dear Judy,
    Maybe you’ve never gotten an email like this before. Our father had a stroke 2 months ago and is now on life support.  He has tubes running all through him, for eating and for breathing too. He can’t talk. He recognizes nobody.

    Doesn’t DNR Mean What It Says?

    Dear Judy,
    My elderly father has lived for four years in an assisted living community, where he signed a “Do-Not-Resuscitate” document in the event his heart stopped beating, and also wrote out  — in pen — his desire not to have either feeding or breathing tubes, if push came to shove.
