Do I Lie to My Sister?

    Dear Judy,
What do I do about a dying sister who refuses to admit she’s dying? She has liver cancer which has spread all over (in her lungs too now…), but she keeps planning trips, cruises.

My Dying Mother Just Won’t Die

    Dear Judy,
My mother learned she had cancer a year ago; it is of unknown origin but it has spread to her liver. The oncologist said she had just months to live. That was 8 months ago.

The miracle is all four of his children (I’m including myself here) turned out well, and that was thanks to our mother. She died [...]

    Dealing With Afterwards (Part I)

One of my favorite coffin-buying stories was told to me by the television chef Nigella Lawson about her own mother. Year ago at age 49, Vanessa Lawson was diagnosed with liver cancer and given just weeks to live.
Nigella, 25 at the time of her mother’s diagnosis, got the diagnosis from her mother’s physician. That is [...]
