What If He Doesn’t Respect the Dead?

    Dear Judy,
My longtime companion died of a series of strokes at 54. He was a brilliant man, and together with a partner, started a very successful gardening supply business here in California — in fact I think it was his constant drive, late hours, and obsession with the work that ended up killing him.
    His partner, [...]

My Brother — Better Off Dead?

    Dear Judy,
My brother was only 41 when he had a stroke. He had lot of other health problems which I won’t go into now, but the stroke wasn’t fatal, immediately.
The EMT team who “rescued” him did everything wrong, apparently. No aspirin was administered. Also, there were traffic delays, they brought him to an inferior hospital [...]

    My Selfish Sister?

    Dear Judy,
My sister’s kid is a fine athlete: she’s a champion highschool basketball player and travels with her team all over Canada (my sister in tow). That’s how come my sister and her kid were away when my father was hospitalized.
He’d had a series of strokes. And, to put things in a nutshell, by the end [...]

    Disaster Doctor

    Dear Judy,
My husband has diabetes and has also suffered a series of small strokes. We don’t have a lot of hope. Our problem is his neurologist — a real pill, and I’m not trying to be funny.
The doctor acts like he couldn’t care less about my husband. Every time we see him, he talks “through” [...]

    9/11 Bore

    Dear Judy,
My colleague at work lost a loved one during 9/11 — lots of publicity, TV and newspaper coverage as you can imagine, and all of us commiserated and felt lousy for this person. I’m not going to go into too many details about who this person is, not even the gender or age of the deceased, for obvious reasons.
    Well [...]

    My Brother, My Father, Myself

    Dear Judy,
Maybe you’ve never gotten an email like this before. Our father had a stroke 2 months ago and is now on life support.  He has tubes running all through him, for eating and for breathing too. He can’t talk. He recognizes nobody.
My younger brother who lives in Salt Lake City, more than 900 miles [...]
